Portishead have revealed that they are planning to work on a new album later in 2008 – part of the reason why they will not play live for the rest of the year.

Speaking to BBC 6Music, guitarist Adrian Utley confirmed that fans shouldn't have to wait as long as they have for new albums from the band previously.

Portishead released their second, eponymous album in 1997, then waited until earlier this year to release their next album, 'Third'.

"We are thinking a new album," Utley said "That's partly why we're not touring enormously, because in 1998 we toured for a year and a bit and it just crashed us. None of us wanted to see each other for a while after that.

"We got together the other night discussing stuff and getting a bit of a plan together. We're all gonna be doing stuff. We've finished our touring for this album for this year because of things that we want to do."

Interviewé par BBC 6music, Geoff Barrow a révélé que Portishead préparaient actuellement l'enregistrement de leur prochain album studio. A noter que la possibilité pour le groupe de partir à nouveau en tournée serait également à l'étude.

Je suis rassuré : la grosse daube qu'ils ont sorti il y a quelques mois n'était qu'un brouillon...

its been reported that were ploughing into another album straight away next year , it was taken from a interview i did with radio 6.

i said a few things that were taken the wrong way , what i meant was that we intend to write another album and hopefully tour again at some point as we didn't get to as many places as we would of liked to this year.

but we don't know when yet

also i was a little thrown cos i was told it was going to be a prerecorded interview but instead i realised half way through that it was going live to air.

i sounded like a right tit.

and it only clicked afterwards that our single magic doors had been given video of the week??

they must fuking love it to give us that!

seeing that theres only one dedicated chain record shop left in england we should be gratfull....

Le prochain Portishead ne pointera son nez que dans 10 ans

Concernat le futur de Portishead, il semblerait que le groupe suive le chemin de Radiohead et ne renouvelle pas son contrat avec Island:

well free of a deal and free of comitment... for now!

with the world being the way it is there are lots of options open......but if you lot have any bright ideas of how we should sell our music in the future lets us know , why not!

i dont think that were into giving out music away for free to be honest...it fukin takes ages to write and we have to heat our swimming pools.....!!!

Geoff Barrow a révélé lors d'une interview accordée au NME que Portishead avaient commencé à travailler sur de nouvelles compositions. Le groupe, désormais libre de tout conrat, réfléchit encore aux différents solutions lui permettant de les publier.
