Ichabod Crane
The pale lanky schoolteacher Ichabod Crane is the eponymous hero of Washington Irving's famous short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." He lives in a secluded town where no one has changed for three hundred years.
As the schoolmaster, Crane is strict and often delivers corporal punishment to his students. He is also very superstitious, and believes that ghost stories are true.
However, he is also quite selfish and often tries to exploit others for his own purposes. He has a romantic interest in Katrina Van Tassel, who is the daughter of a wealthy farmer and expected to inherit a large sum of money.
His rival, the rash and sometimes cruel Abraham "Brom Bones" Van Brunt, is also interested in Katrina, and both men try to use Ichabod to their advantage.
