In December 2004 Calexico collaborated with Iron & Wine's Sam Beam at Wavelab Studio in Tucson, Arizona to record 7 songs for an upcoming EP release titled "Lays in the Reigns" for Overcoat Recordings due out in the Fall '05. Plans are being made to support the release with tour dates in the USA this Fall. Featured songs include the hypnotic rendition of "He lays in the reigns" with special guests Salvador Duran on vocals en espanol and percussion ala botas as well as Wavelab's Nick Luca on reverse delayed wurlitzer, the swamp rock fueled "Red Dirt" with Wavelab's Craig Schumacher on blues harp and the romping piano and horn driven "History of Lovers" just to name a few.
