Le prochain album de Guided By Voices est annoncé pour le 24 AOUT 2004 chez Matador, et s'intitule " Half Smiles of the Decomposed ".

En revanche, là où c'est moins réjouissant, c'est que le groupe a déclaré lui-même sur son site officiel que ce sera là le dernier & ultime effort de Guided By Voices, qui devraient rendre les gants pour la fin 2004
Pollard a ainsi déclaré :
